I have 3 decades of study and practice in the healing arts. These gifts came to me from my Filipino/Dominican ancestry.
My journey with physical yoga began in my 20s in New York City. My first class felt like "a lifting of a veil" experience; it was my initial sensation of enlightenment. I remember feeling filled with light and a strange familiarity with strangers while walking down a busy NYC street. As crazy as it may sound, I knew this was my path, and I needed to follow it!
Looking back, I smile—some aspire to be doctors or lawyers, but I wanted to be a Yogi! And I’m still working on that! Years passed as I immersed myself in various yoga traditions until I found my teacher in Mysore, India: Saraswati Jois. She holds a revered place in the Ashtanga yoga lineage and was authorized by Sri Krishnamacharya. With her stern yet loving motherly nature, she has uplifted her family with yoga and honored her father's (Sri K Pattabhi Jois) legacy. A remarkable woman, she continues to teach fiercely in her 80s.
In my 30s, I was introduced to Zen Buddhism and Sufism. I spent the next 20 years studying with my teachers in a traditional, hands-on manner—serving them through humble tasks, which deepened my understanding.
In my 40s, I discovered an ancient plant medicine from the Amazon, which led me on an introspective journey. Ten years with jungle medicine unveiled profound truths for me.
Additionally, I am a wife, mother, and licensed massage therapist. I cherish my family and have been happily married to my husband for 27 years. We've survived and thrived together. He is one of my teachers; his teachings about love, forgiveness, and resilience are invaluable to me. The healing work I have pursued has transformed me into a better person, enriching my practice at RED LOTUS. I continue to travel and learn various healing art forms to remain open and receptive.
I look forward to getting to know you!
Deep Bow,
Diane
